Rants and Ramblings...
« on: November 03, 2012, 11:12:38 am »
Life is difficult.

This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths. It is a great truth because once we truly see this truth, we transcend it. Once we truly know that life is difficult - once we truly understand and accept it - then life is no longer difficult. Because once it is accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters.

OK, deep breath, and repeat after me:

Life is difficult.

Now that we we've gotten that out of the way, let's enjoy our life.

That was simple, wasn't it?

At one time or another everyone is filled with fear; the only difference between those who are successful and those who are not is that successful people keep going anyway-despite their fear.
Feel the fear and do it anyway!
That could be one of the best bits of advice you'll ever hear.
Recognition of fear diminishes its capacity to impact our thoughts and actions.
Understanding your fear allows you to take action despite its presence.

To quote the great Mary Manin Morrissey,

"You block your dream when you allow your fear to grow bigger than your faith."

An old joke says, "If you break your arm in three places, don't go to those places anymore."  There may be more truth in that corny line than we realize.  When the pains of the past beckon your attention, don't go back there.  Instead, remind yourself, No thanks, I'm going to think on things that are of good report, things that are going to build me up, not tear me down, things that encourage me and fill me with peace and happiness, not things that attempt to steal my hope and drain my spirit.

Be childlike at least once a day. Deliberately select a typically stressful situation and become a valley of heaven. Play rather than work, even while you're at a job! Giggle rather than maintaining a solemn air. Be in awe for a moment or two. For example, find a spider web and just gaze at the miracle before you: a tiny little creature spinning a perfect net bigger than it is in order to catch airborne bugs for dinner... wow!

You are surrounded by miracles. How often do you pause to observe them? Conversely, how often do you devote time to reading about the atrocities of the world, the ominous predictions of economic collapse, or the questionable behavior of overpublicized celebrities?

Anyone who knows me is aware of my love of LEGO.  Why do I love LEGO so much?   Because it gives me permission to be a child.
I do lots of other things that could be considered "childlike" every day (hey, hold the wise cracks!). Always strive to retain or regain some of the enthusiasm and passion and joy of your youth.
Because the truth is, no matter how old you are, you're still an infant when compared to eternity.
